1040 Saint-Louis is located in the heart of the Lachine district, between the St. Lawrence River and Notre-Dame Street. These are four townhouses and a penthouse on two or three floors with more than two bedrooms that contribute to the effervescent urban energy of the historic district of Lachine in Montreal. The quiet street, river and established parks complement the nearby commercial amenities - all the best the neighborhood has to offer.

A CONCEPT INFLUENCED BY THE HISTORY OF THE DISTRICT AND OF MONTREAL

Close to the Lachine Canal, the site is considered part of the district's heritage sector, which has inspired reflections on its history for the design of townhouses, in keeping with the identity and richness of the place.

Considering the past of Lachine, it is inevitable to understand the importance of maritime trade in the development of the city. The important presence of the canal in the history of the district and the city led the concept towards naval architecture and more particularly towards that of the Canadian Steamship Line (CSL), which played an essential role in the evolution of transport on the St. Lawrence River.

In order to integrate into the built environment, the project was inspired by the composition of the facades of the neighboring workers' houses. A regular grid is thus drawn on the three facades of the building to organize the openings according to the dwellings.
